Research Needs
Future studies of the cost of FASD need to:
- Determine the number of children born with ARBD and ARND and calculate the ratio of this group to those born with FAS and pFAS, so that the magnitude of the problem can be better understood.
- Update or identify the cost of each service system element used by individuals with FAS, pFAS, and other individuals with an FASD, while ensuring that costs are representative of the country as a whole.
- Determine the incidence rate by race and ethnicity so that national estimates of children born with an FASD can be made with higher confidence.
